Trust In Him

Scripture:

Jeremiah 48:4  ‘For you trusted in your wealth and skills therefore you shall perish’.

Observation:

God is certainly on the warpath!  He is letting all know that the Moabites are going to be destroyed.  Jeremiah did not have words of encouragement to say, but only words of destruction.  They were God’s words and Jeremiah had no choice but to obey and speak out.

God has said he will destroy the Moabites because of their trust in themselves of what they can do, their abilities, their accumulation of wealth.  We all know that we have to start somewhere, some-one needs to give you ‘a break’, an opportunity.  To obtain a skill, training needs to come from some-one and in turn the skill can be mastered to the degree of your time and effort being invested and in due time a living can be obtained and wealth can be enjoyed.

Application:

I have been trained by a skilled teacher to touch type without looking at the keys!  I have had some great employment opportunities to use that skill to obtain a steady income.  But if I trust completely in my skills, I am no better than any other typist.  My skills and wealth is ok to have, however, my trust needs to be wholly and completely with my God who gave me the ability to type and gain an income.

My trust needs to be completely in my God who really does supply all my needs.  He is my source of strength and hope.  He will sustain me, not my abilities.  They may come and go and I need to lay all my skills and wealth at His feet for I know I am nothing without my God.

Prayer:

Lord, your spoken words of destruction to the Moabites I have heard and apply it to my life.  My trust is not in my skills or wealth as much as I rely on them and want to hang onto, I need to let go and trust that you are my source in all things.
